A few ideas for the week-end of 18/19 May.

Visit Margate today (Saturday) and step inside the Theatre Royal to join the free party (from 10am-4pm). Find out more about the behind-the-scenes world of theatre, try your hand at writing and have a go at a drama session.

At 3pm join others who love Margate to celebrate  the ‘opening of the new sea defence steps’. Wander around the Old Town; call in to Margate Gallery to see the wonderful colours in Ashley Hanson’s paintings and enjoy tasty Thai food at Bows Kitchen (10 Market Square). If you’ve got a creative idea you want to test, have a look at the spaces available in Margate’s latest pop up space at 98-102 High Street.

Also in Thanet  The Grange in Ramsgate, where Augustus Pugin produced some of his finest work, is open all week-end.

In Medway the Light Vessel 21, moored at Gillingham Pier  is open all day. See  artist Jessie Brennan and watch the finish of the Medway Barge Match.

Wander along Whitstable High street to the artist run Fish Slab Gallery  and call in to the Museum, a few doors away, to see the celebration of the life of Whitstable’s most famous resident, Peter Cushing. The Horsebridge Arts Centre also has an exhibition of horror poster art to coincide with the centenary celebrations. Take a photo while you’re in Whitstable and enter it into the Year in the Life of Whitstable, a project that is recording a year in the life of the town. You’ll find plenty of inspiration in the Harbour, home of Whitstable Harbour Village as well as fishy outlets and other places to eat.

On Sunday dance your way into the Guinness World of Records on the beach at Broadstairs or maybe take a trip to Dungeness, the UK’s only desert and visit Paddy Hamilton’s studios on the beach. Call in to the RSPB centre at Romney Marsh and on the same site see the art work in the recently opened Art Shack.

If you go to any of the events or places I’d love to know what you think.

Please add your comments to this blog or tweet me @escapetocreate!  Have a great week-end.
